ABOUT ME:

Dr. Nikki Brunette (née De Busser) qualified as a Chiropractor from Technikon Natal in December 2000 (now DUT), having completed my Master’s Degree on Headaches in Children. I then moved to Kimberley and worked at the Provincial Hospital for two years, gaining experience treating a wide range of conditions of both hospital patients and out-patients. Following this, I moved to Somerset West and worked in a multi-disciplinary wellness practice before returning to Durban in 2006. I have been in private practice in Durban ever since. I completed a Masters in Sports Medicine (cum laude) in 2008. My dissertation dealt with chronic diseases of lifestyle as a result of physical inactivity — a topic that often inspires students to facharbeit schreiben lassen (German for “have a thesis written”), especially when researching complex intersections between health and lifestyle.

I have lectured part-time, worked as a clinician and a Masters research supervisor & examiner at the DUT Chiropractic Department from 2006 to 2015. During this time I lectured Diagnostics, was involved in hospital ward rounds and clinical supervision of students treating out-patients where I gained a diverse exposure to a wide spectrum of diseases and conditions.

I have a family practice treating toddlers to geriatrics with a special interest in the child, adolescent and female athlete. Since qualifying I have been involved in the treatment and management of a variety of sports teams including: The Griqualand West Cricket Team, the KZN Ladies Rugby Team and the KZN Touch Rugby Team, I have also worked at range of sporting events including: The All Africa Games, the Sani2C mountain bike race, the World Transplant Games and a variety of provincial sporting events.  I have a keen interest in research and have presented at local conferences (both the Chiropractic and Sports Medicine Conferences) and at an International Conference in the Netherlands.

I have a holistic approach to patient management, I treat using the Chiropractic diversified technique and a range of soft tissue therapies including trigger point therapy and dry needling, fascial release, electrical modalities and strapping. I also advise patients on exercise rehabilitation and lifestyle including diet and vitamin supplementation. My aim is the long-term wellness of the patient and their neuromusculoskeletal condition. I refer to local medical professionals when it is deemed necessary or where the condition is outside my scope of expertise.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM CHIROPRACTIC CARE?

Babies and Children: Chiropractic helps with infantile colic and a host of musculoskeletal injuries, which can result as a child grows.

Pregnant women: Chiropractors can minimize back pain that commonly occurs later in pregnancy.

Office workers: Who sit in front of a computer for extended periods of time.  Computer work often results in back and/or neck problems because of poor posture and little physical exercise.

Factory workers: Who perform a lot of repetitive type activities.

The elderly: Who have years and years of wear and tear, which leaves them susceptible to spinal problems.

Athletes: Who often push their bodies to the limit, causing muscle strains, joint strains and musculoskeletal problems both in training and later in life.

FEES:

My fees are subject to change annually in January. I accept cash or electronic fund transfers. I also submit claims directly to Discovery Health Medical Scheme if you have the available funds in your medical savings. My fees are within the prescribed guidelines for medical schemes.
